NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

Students: Are you interested in working with the community on the prevention of teenage drinking and youth access to alcohol? Project Extra Mile has two Youth Leadership Training workshops this summer. If you're interested you can go to www.projectextramile.org to complete the online application form. Do it quick! Only 50 students will be selected. Applications are due March 30.  See Mrs. Dowd in the Counseling Center with any questions.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Do you like Hot Chocolate?   Mrs. Jenkins and the Breakfast Book Club will be selling hot chocolate for $1 a cup in the Commons area at 7:45 every Friday All proceeds go toward new books for the club and Media Center.

Juniors eligible to attend Boys/Girls State: Remember that your applications are due to Mrs. Dowd in the Counseling Center by 3:30 on Tuesday 2/7.

College Summer Programs:  Many colleges have wonderful summer programs.  If you are interested in literature on these programs, visit the counseling center. These announcements are information only and are not

Carleton Liberal Arts Experience (Northfield, Minnesota:  Carleton has full scholarship & transportation assistance for first-generation, low income, and underrepresented students for all FOUR of our summer programs. If you are interested in finding out more about these summer programs, an admission representative will be at EHS during the week of February 13th.  See your counselor by FEBRUARY 12TH to make an appointment.



SENIORS: Do you have at least a 3.0 GPA? Do you volunteer your time to the community? Do you want some extra money for college? There is scholarship for you! The American Red Cross is awarding a $250 scholarship to a senior at Elkhorn High School who meets this criteria. Visit your Naviance account and click on "Volunteer Scholarship" or see Mrs. Dowd in the Counseling Center for an application. Applications are due March 30.

UNMC is offering an opportunity for a ten week summer research program for high school students desiring a career in science and medicine. Students with strong academic qualifications in science and mathematics are invited to apply to the Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience Summer Undergraduate Research Program from June 4 - August 10. You can apply online at www.unmc.edu/pharmacology by March 1. See Mrs. Dowd in the Counseling Center if you would like more information.

Juniors and Seniors: You must sign up in the counseling center 3 days in advance in order to miss class to visit with a college representative.  

Seniors that are interested in pursuing a Technical Career in Agriculture…..Plains Equipment Group (John Deere) would like to talk to you. There is an opportunity for you to receive tuition reimbursement to pursue an Associate of Applied Science degree at Southeast Community College in Milford. Please see Mrs. Dowd in the Counseling Center for more information about this opportunity!

~JUNIORS: Are you interested in pursuing a career in Law Enforcement? There is a Junior Law Cadet Program that is happening this June in Grand Island at the Nebraska State Patrol Training Academy that you can apply for. You get to explore  and experience various aspects of law enforcement and receive training, participate in daily calisthenics, firearms training and self defense tactics. You also will learn the latest in law enforcement technology, including fingerprinting, K-9 handling, accident and criminal investigation. If you are considering a career in law enforcement, the Junior Cadet Law Program is for you. There is an application an interview process and if you are selected you will get to attend for free: this includeds your food, t-shirt, caps, classroom materials and administrative expense.

Exploring Posts

The list of Exploring Posts that are starting second semester has arrived. Your TA teacher has a flyer explaining what options are coming up. Some choices include cosmetology, engineering, nursing, newspaper, volunteering with the Omaha Storm Chasers....and many more in between!

Interested in pursuing a career in ENGINEERING? Engineering Day is coming up at the University of Nebraska College of Engineering at the Peter Kiewit Institute for students ages 14 - 20. It is Saturday, February 25 from 9am - 1pm  on UNO's campus. You can register online at www.OmahaExploring.org or see Mrs. Dowd in the Counseling Center for an application. Cost is $10, which includes lunch.
