News from Mrs. Johnston's First Grade
It was so fun to meet so many of you at Open House!! The excitement of your first graders is what it's all about! May they always face school with that type of enthusiasm!! I am so looking forward to a great year with every one of them!! What a darling group!!
We will start out with many get-acquainted activities--songs with their names, etc. and then review the alphabet letters and sounds, as quickly as possible. In math we'll be reviewing numbers and patterning in the beginning. In Social Studies, we'll be discussing school rules and in Science we'll be involved with a health unit about starting school well rested and stress free!! I have a million books to share and of course, we'll have literacy centers every day. Art will take place on Day A, P.E. on Days B and D, and Music on Days C and E. We'll also have Guidance every other week for 30 minutes. Media takes place in 7 day blocks--half an
hour each day, starting September 13.
I will get a Show and Tell schedule to you very soon! I need to wait until we see how many children we have and then give each a special day.
If any of you wonderful people would like to be my Room Mother, please let me know! It only involves being responsible for three parties: Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day. The treats are provided by the PTO and all I need is someone to organize two or three simple games. I will assist you in every way!! So--let me know if you might be interested. I would certainly appreciate your help!! I had moms sign up to help with parties--just need a couple of you to really be in charge. Thanks much!
